Fifty-word reviews
Stressing contrast and composition, Bitte Orca barrels between percussive background vocals, distorted guitar licks, and hand claps on "Cannibal Resource" to fingerpicking, string orchestration, and sonorous female vocals on "Two Doves." Throw in some falsetto and tempo changes and you have one aesthetically complicated but imaginatively and meticulously crafted album.
A meeting of 2+ mavericks, singing about whales and motherhood...should be terrible, right? But the mindmeld works - the crunchy Dirty Projectors harmonies that spooked Bitte more potent, Björk the only singer to make Longstreth sound, if not tame, timely - in a duet that rises and swells like flooding tides.
