Fifty-word reviews
Killer Mike's two previous outings, the excellent I Pledge Allegiance to the Grind, Parts I and II brimmed with energy, passion and urgency. On Underground Atlanta, Mike's fire-spitting delivery has the intensity of a second-hand lighter, and the army of mediocre rappers crowding the two discs extinguish any remaining flame.
Can I admire Killer Mike and El-P’s abrasive technique while wanting more melody? Can I wish Mike’s gender politics were as complex as his racial ones? Could there be more wit and less swagger? Would Mike call me just another buppie hypnotized by American “democracy”? Yes, yes, yes, probably.
