Volume 2

Borrow It

There’s no big surprise here. M. Ward and Zooey sound more polished this time around the bend, but some of the alt-retro charm is less stunning. Blame it on everyone else for sounding similar or blame it on She and Him for not switching it up. Either way, rich…but conventional.

A Very She and Him Christmas

5.8 out of 10

Simple arrangements and subdued, delicate harmonies repackage holiday standards and obscurities in the "new old-fashioned way." Overly romanticized yet undeniably charming, the album is retro vintage chic, content to radiate a hot cocoa glow (albeit spiked with something fashionable and cheap) rather than deign to indulge in boisterous Christmas cheer.
