A departure from SM’s space-pop vibe, Relief delivers sounds more oceanic than extraterrestrial. Elongated guitar in "Sister Water" sets a tone so peaceful that by the time you hear "Backsliders," lack of lyrics goes entirely unnoticed as the ghost of Balbanian's ethereal vocals and the natural tide pull you under.
