Pastoral, ruminant woodwinds graze alongside carnivorous Tom Waits ripoffs in this particular niche of the Americana woods. You might think the growling predators would dominate, but instead it is the dulcet, slow but surefooted “To Ohio” – reproduced in an album-closing reprise – that survives after its fellows have been extinguished.
