What else we were talking about that week

Saturday’s first band slot continued the vibe the Foo Fighters had left behind from the night before, with Alberta Cross showing up to spill rock ‘n’ roll all over the stage. Petter Ericson Stakee’s slightly high-octave lead vocals gave their music a touch of raw style that distinguished them from similar groups of today - admirable considering the low level of quality so many ‘new rock’ groups exhibit.

Alberta Cross started their set with a long and slow intro, then picked it up with glimmering shivers of guitar. It established the ‘70s rock vibe I’d expected from them, and they never strayed from it. Their song “ATX” sounded almost identical to “Lunatic Fringe,” and the sometimes low, sometimes shrieking, guitar the band brought to it made it fierce enough to stand up to Red Rider’s 1981 hit.

Not all of their songs were great, as it sometimes felt like they were trying too hard. Though you weren't not even sure at what. The way they fashion much of their alternative music into a smooth retro groove is great though, and it definitely makes them listenable.
