Gary Clark, Jr. was on fire Monday afternoon, jammin’ the blues out of his guitar like the devil was chasing him down to sign a contract. His strumming would alternate between lightning fast and sultry slow, and each style made for some badass guitar work.
Vocals-wise, Clark was all over the place – at times howlin’ as a good bluesman should, he’d occasionally shift into a Stevie Wonder voice, and then suddenly would start to sound remarkably like a teenaged male singer of the ‘50s. He maintained an untouchable cool in his performance that was rightfully his, and he proved it in playing a strong, untouchable version of his hit “Bright Lights.” It was impressive to see how much skill and talent Clark possesses so early in his career, and exciting to consider how much more we're going to get out of him.
