Before Big Freedia came out to tear the house down at Holocene last night, DJ Beyondabout (PDX) and DJ Rusty Lazer (New Orleans) primed the crowd with southern Bounce beats for three and a half hours. As the hours ticked by, the room swelled and sweated, expending precious energy that they would be asked to give up once Freedia hit the stage. And at half past midnight, without a break to the music pounding around the room, Big Freedia, the Queen Diva of New Orleans Bounce Music, emerged - ready to prove why people are raving about her. The minute she took the stage and began the first song, the entire audience, from the punk kids on the floor to the hipsters standing on tables, erupted into a booty-shaking mass of unrestrained fun. From Troy's pictures, it looks like this might end up being the wildest set of Soul’d Out Music Fest.
