The moment Strokes frontman Julian Casablancas took the stage at the Showbox, you could feel you were in the presence of a star. Casablancas' vocal quality and delivery was so reminiscent of Martin/Sinatra-era jazz that a cigarette and scotch in hand would have looked quite at home on stage with him. Although the aesthetic similarities may end there, Casablancas delivered a very cool, laid-back performance tempered with plenty of emotion, and when the show was over you left feeling like you'd just experienced a very exciting piece of contemporary music culture.
