[Our fearless team, Nicci Boots and Ian McNeil spent three days listening to an obscene amount of fantastic music above the stunning Columbia River Gorge in George, Washington. Check out all our coverage here, over 30 sets from a who's who list of indie music.]
While there were a monstrous number of well-known bands at Sasquatch that I was thrilled to see, there were also sooo many groups I’d always wanted to check out before, but had never listened to. Portugal. The Man was definitely one of these unknowns, and their show ended up being one of my favorites of the weekend. The sound they produce clashes so many styles together, and it’s all complemented by the sexy, archetypal rock guitar that blasts into unexpected places during the songs. It’s also a bit of a woozy sound, one that reminds me of a rough, yet beautiful, love story.
Hats off to these Portland boys for being the best surprise of Day One.
