What else we were talking about that week

Following Starfucker's catchy, energetic set at the My Old Kentucky Blog showcase, Red Cortez (formerly The Weather Underground) failed to inspire much reaction from the majority of the remaining crowd in the Radio Room.

It's not that Red Cortez was that bad, they were just not that memorable. Frontman Harley Prechtel-Cortez is a good looking guy, and has decent stage presence, but neither his singing nor the band's sound left much impression on me. That's too bad, since Red Cortez sounds pretty good, from listening to their MySpace afterward - driving rock with hints of blues and soul. Perhaps they need time to tweek their live sound, as a handful of dedicated fans who clearly knew the music stood up front, singing along and flashing their cameras. The rest of the audience, myself included, remained unmoved.
