What else we were talking about that week

Before you commit to attending a show at The Showbox Sodo, it may be wise to plan ahead a little and find out if there's a baseball/football/soccer game going on that night. If there is, you might want to consider how much frustration/road rage/time-wasted-in-car you're willing to endure. If your threshold is low for the aforementioned, spare yourself the risk of murdering someone and wait for the act to come around to The Showbox at the Market or any other downtown club.

That being said, the venue was a surprisingly impressive space, and as soon as the Psychedelic Furs came on, I was glad I resisted the urge to turn around and go home. The Psychedelic Furs were an amazing spectacle to behold. They sounded better live than any band I can recall seeing in some time and played with the spirit of performers that truly relish their place on the stage. Their energy was infectious and spread through the crowd faster than Hepatitis C backstage at a Motley Crue concert. Partly this was due to the vast diversity of the crowd, ranging from goths and new wavers to awkward adolescents and even more awkward adults. Something about the convergence of so many contrasting characters can make a show come alive that no amount of promoting can accomplish. But the credit goes to the Psychedelic Furs for making this happen. Few artists have the sound, style, cultural weight and expansiveness that it takes to allure such an extensive audience.
