What else we were talking about that week

One wonders at the name, "The Thermals," the moniker of a smokin'-hot band out of rainy Portland, OR. Does it mean, pertaining to heat? Does it refer to a rising air current caused by heat from some underlying surface? Or is it rather the long underwear popularized in mid-'90s Northwest grunge fashion, the musical analogue of which is the direct antecedent of the aforementioned smokin'-hot and thoroughly modern band? Whichever the case, The Thermals were in fine form at the Mess with Texas party on SXSW Saturday in Waterloo Park. The crowd, the beats, and the fantastic plume of hair atop the bassist's head all bounced in synchronicity as things heated up. Most of the songs played were off the band's spankin' new album, Now We Can See, the title track of which is impossible to listen to without shaking your business at least a little. Hot music from the rainshine state. Git it.
