What else we were talking about that week

I'm in love.

Deliriously in love with a little band from Ireland that truly made my year. I have been quickly falling head over heels with this Two Door Cinema Club's happy indie pop sound, a bit like Vampire Weekend meets electro splashed with just a little bit of disco. Going into their show, I was a little worried thinking that I had built them up in my mind, and the reality of it all might be that they actually suck live.

Nothing could be further from the truth. These four young baby-faced boys dressed in the tightest of skinny jeans, played to every one of my expectations.

Not only was this the first time Two Door Cinema Club had been in Seattle, but it was also the first time they weren't allowed to have alcohol while on stage. The sobering night might have actually been a good thing, especially for vocalist Alex Trimble, who confessed he was recovering from an interesting night in Portland and waking up in a strange house without his trousers on. Ahh...the life of a rockstar. Despite the upsetting lack of available booze, Two Door Cinema Club seemed to appreciate the Seattle crowd’s enthusiasm. In their oh-so-cute thick Irish accent, they mentioned how extremely tired they were before stepping onto the stage. But their lethargy was quickly forgotten when they began their first song and the place went crazy.

Even though Two Door Cinema Club has been around for a couple years now, they just released their first album Tourist History in February 2010. The best thing about seeing a band with only one album under their belt, aside from seeing them in smaller venues, is that almost every single song on the album is guaranteed to be played - which was the case for Two Door, who belted out one danceable tune after another. The energetic beats of "This is the Life," "Do you Want it All," and “Undercover Martyn” filled the place. People danced, yelled, and jumped up and down. Beer was spilled, people were pushed into each other, and fists were pumping. It was great. At one point Trimble intro'd a song saying, "Get ready, this is a dance song," which provoked a few chuckles from concert-goers who wondered which songs WEREN'T considered danceable.

I'm not saying their music is everyone's cup of tea. If you prefer a quiet acoustic set, this band is not for you. If you don't like to be part of a wicked fun dance party, I would advise you stay away. But for those of us who like their concerts a little rowdy and pop-infused, I guarantee that you will fall in love with these guys just as much as I have.
