With precise instrumental and vocal performances, this is an album of polished stones - unfortunately closer to gift shop tchotchke than actual rock collection. More new country than Folkways, there is little dust on Harvey's boots. There's a reason Dylan handicapped his talented musicians: to ensure performances that were perfectly stoned.
