On Harlem River Blues, Justin Townes Earle demonstrates a mastery of the American roots tradition. He follows the historical thread from folk and blues (detouring through rockabilly and bar rock à la Buick MacKane) into the present, infusing otherwise ossified genres with new vigor and, as with “Rogers Park,” beauty.
