De La Soul’s Posdnous and Dave portray, hilariously, rappers struggling to make it big. The struggle seems lightweight and summery—with horns, synths, melodic basslines—but the lesson still needs learning: Friendship’s worth more than fame. The in-album DJ says, “It’s hip-hop, it’s disco, it’s classic.” (Like, classic 1976.) She’s right.
