At just 17 minutes, “Painted” manages to wonderfully encapsulate the WSM’s unique twist on relaxed, understated acoustic pop. Despite a stiff rhythm section, which occasionally sounds like a drum machine, there are enough flourishes of electric guitar, organ, and synthesizer to make a distinctive mark in an already well-treaded genre.
