Shel Silverstein is known far more
for poetry found in his books
but the songs covered here are not novelties
and deserve these second looks.
In exuberant detail we hear
the disillusionment, sacrifice and compromised dreams
of children who outgrow their wonder
after life fails to be what it seems.
