Junip

Thanks to our friends at Music Savage for this post. Look out for a review and photos from the show at musicsavage.com and melophobe.com later this week. Say hi if you see us!

Junip is a project featuring Swedish singer José González and some his closest friends. The band began ten years ago, but was sidetracked by the success González found with his solo projects, particularly his album Veneer. Formed in Sweden in the late '90s the alt / acoustic folk band released their most recent album Fields in September 2010.

The band plays mellow yet danceable folk with a worldly rhythm, bringing a Latin jazz feel to each song. The work of keyboardist Tobias Winterkorn injects rich, ambient sounds, while all is complemented with Gonzalez’ soft vocals that have a soothing, calming effect. All together, it makes for a rich sonic experience, and one that should not be missed live.

About to embark on a North American Tour, Junip will criss-cross the country, but begins tonight in Boston at the Royale. Sharon Van Etten opens. There are still a few tickets available. Why not head to a fantastic show tonight?
