Tim Kasher makes three times a charm with two Cursive Daytrotter sessions in his repertoire, and now a solo recording marking that lucky streak. Featuring tracks off the month-old The Game of Monogamy, Kasher marches forth in the topical vein of the majority of his work - Cursive, The Good Life or otherwise - with an emphasis on the disasters of relationships.
Sean Moeller's words accompanying the sessions were too eloquent to ignore when he speaks of Kasher's solo album and the distraught songs enclosed:
"What always makes Kasher such a heartbreaking writer is that all of his characters start from a place of wanting what's supposed to come next, right up until they realize that this has all been a mistake. It's not what they want at all. The puppies that they picked up and made family were fine, the nights shared were fine, the love made was fine then. But all of that seems like a long time ago now and so they're ungracefully flying themselves into the plate glass - the outside, the freedom seemingly right there."
Accompanied by string and brass instruments, musical life is breathed into the death of love that cries out in the four tracks available at Daytrotter. Hear "No Fireworks" above, which out of the four is the most successful at making your soul ache. You can snatch the track here, or log in to Daytrotter to download the entire session for free.
Another brilliant example of his theme of malicious relationships continues in one of The Game of Monogamy's singles, "Cold Love:"
