Deftones

Deftones is a band I never grew tired of; part of the handful of bands that have stayed with me past high school. The bass line always finds a way to reverberate into my chest and buzz there with comforting dissonance. So it is with some sentimentality that I inform you of their latest effort to raise money for their bass player, Chi Cheng, who suffered a terrible car accident in 2008 and is now in a semi-comatose state.

Stephen Carpenter’s side project, Sol Invicto, has decided to offer their official remix of "Diamond Eyes" exclusively on Oneloveforchi.com in an effort to raise funds needed for Chi to go to a Brain Injury Rehab Facility on the East coast. The track is only .99 cents, and 100 percent of the profit goes to Chi's benefit.

So far they have raised $14,442.60 with merchandise sales, direct donations and charity auctions, but this is only a small fraction of the $500,000 they need to support him at the brain injury facility. According to an interview with drummer Abe Cunningham, the progress has been extremely slow in completely reviving him and the band is worried that two years later, efforts will wane in raising money to give Chi the best care available.

You can hear the original for free in their video for "Diamond Eyes" below and make comparisons with the charitable remix, if you choose to buy it:
