How are you paying for college? Grants? Loans? Monthly rental of your soul to the devil? Sub Pop Records wants to offer a better way for you to gain the knowledge and experience you need to propel you toward a career in the arts. How, you might say! Well, the easy way: by giving you a few grand.
This year Sub Pop is giving away a total of $13,000 split up three ways to three fortunate high school seniors living in Washington or Oregon. The scholarships are for $6,000, $4,000 and $3,000 and can only go to someone planning on concentrating in the arts in some way or fashion. This includes, but is not limited to, music, art, theatre, basket-weaving, interpretive dance, etc. All you have to do to apply, given you meet these preliminary requirements, is to send examples of your craft and answers to the questions below in the form of a one-page essay to Sub Pop:
1. What are you doing in the arts/music field in your community?
2. How and/or why did you become interested in artistic outlets?
3. How would this scholarship money help you to progress in your chosen field?
4. What are your influences and/or who inspires you?
5. Who are some of your favorite bands or artists?
They are receiving responses via email – scholarship[at]subpop[dot]com – or their address in Seattle:
