Meanderingly hypnotic to a point where I had to turn it off to write this post, Omar Rodriguez-Lopez's latest albums fall into a logical vein given the past few Mars Volta releases. Debuted today and sold on his bandcamp for under $10, Mantra Hiroshima and You're Welcome offer a non-chemically induced trance fueled by discordant guitar skillfully laid over hums of synths, keyboards and sporadic percussion. Each track is relatively brief in comparison to Mars Volta's standard, but length is irrelevant as the styles and notes start to bleed together like headlights during highway hypnosis.
If you're not planning on concentrating on anything for awhile, listen to both below. Maybe stare at something that's spinning, too.
