This player (YouTube) didn’t survive.
You might have already seen this, but I'm playing catch up. Word is, Yeezy went ballistic on the VMA stage last night when he ran up on Taylor Swift during her acceptance speech. Why, you might ask? Because it was obvious to him that Beyonce had "one of the best videos of all time" and therefore, she should have won the "award" Taylor had clutched in her hands. And he just thought he'd let the world know that...on national television...during Taylor Swift's speech. Take that young, happy girl!! Three things and then I'll get to his comment.
1) I feel bad for Taylor Swift. She was probably embarrassed and most likely, deflated in front of a lot of people. That can rub a person raw and I don't listen to her music, but from all accounts I've heard about it or about her story, she seems like a true blue musician (not a label concoction). She writes her own lyrics, plays her own gui-tar, she's great to her fans, she's humble, etc. That's good enough for me to feel bad for her. Especially since I doubt at her age, she's hardened to a point where she could just shake it off.
2) And my cynical thought...Taylor, don't sweat it, MTV is bullshit and no one should give a fuck about a moonman. That "award" hasn't meant anything or been credible since...forever? It's always been a joke award and MTV knows nothing about music anymore and I get the feeling sometimes that the hey-day of MTV wasn't their doing, but was just a flood of good music and as they say...even a blind squirrel finds an acorn sometimes.
3) I think Kanye is a genius and I'm a huge apologist. He acted like an ass though last night.
Back to Kanye, who seems to feel really bad (apologist Colin: "I bet he actually is") about the situation and posted the following statement on his blog. Oh and so much traffic is streaming in for this that his blog is down right now.
“I’M SOOOOO SORRY TO TAYLOR SWIFT AND HER FANS AND HER MOM. I SPOKE TO HER MOTHER RIGHT AFTER AND SHE SAID THE SAME THING MY MOTHER WOULD’VE SAID. SHE IS VERY TALENTED! I LIKE THE LYRICS ABOUT BEING A CHEERLEADER AND SHE’S IN THE BLEACHERS! …………………… I’M IN THE WRONG FOR GOING ON STAGE AND TAKING AWAY FROM HER MOMENT!…………….. I feel like Ben Stiller in "Meet the Parents" when he messed up everything and Robert De Niro asked him to leave... That was Taylor's moment and I had no right in any way to take it from her. I am truly sorry.
