Don't yell at me Modest Mouse fans if I get this wrong, since I'm not well-versed in Modest Mouse land, but I can't help but think this new Los Campesinos! song/video I'm about to show you is extremely reminiscent of most of the MM I've heard. To me, this song carries with it that same off-kilter vocal style that Isaac Brock has put to such use and I doubt the lyrical content would be that far out of their thematic realm either. Whether or not I'm right about the MM connection, know that it's a really good song. One that I like more and more, the more I keep listening to it. It begins with a slow build, flanked by careful violin strokes. The song is dark but not overbearing, with an almost damp feeling to it. I keep getting images of water at night and for some reason I don't think that's because the word "sea" pops up in the lyrics.

Lyrically, it's a story song about a girl who is lost. Lost in her head, in her eating disorder, in her past and the narrator comes off as the helpless observer. Around him, the music continues to build into sections where his calm, but wavering words morph into abrasively filtered screams, as if the frustration becomes too much for him. That's when the song breaks open, and we go swirling into a whirlpool of sound. And in a way, this song kind of feels like we are just spinning around and around with no foreseeable path out. And even though, I made it sound like you too, as the listener, will feel helpless, you don't and however they managed to do that, is impressive. So check out, "The Sea Is A Good Place To Think Of The Future" both in mp3 and video format and let me know if I got it right. I'd be interested to know.
