Last night, Ben Gibbard performed in benefit of Teen Feed, a non-profit aiding homeless teens, at the Crocodile in Seattle. He took this opportunity to not only help those in need, be adorable and show off his mad skillz, but also debut a new Death Cab for Cutie song based on his favorite building in Seattle. Below are three videos from the show: one of the new song, another of a Radiohead cover of "All I Need" and the joint performance with his wifey Zooey Deschanel of "I'll Never Find Another You." Aw, couples who sing together, stay together.
As an aside, Spin recently interviewed Gibbard on the status of Death Cab, and a 12-13 track album is due for next spring. Woo hoo! Here's a quote from him giving you an idea of the musical concept:
"[It’s] a testament to where we are as a band . . . It’s not a guitar-based record. We’ve been into vintage keyboards and playing with that palette . . . We’re not adding guitars because people will be expecting them . . . I’m so proud of this album that at this point I don’t care if people don’t like it.”
Well then! I don't care if we like it either! But, remaining in the spirit of his solo work, I've added quite an old track of his called "You Remind Me of Home," which is one of his best sarcastic lyrical jokes that he's ever played. Prepare to be surprised at the tone lurking in his words.
