In the winter months sea salt is used often to regain traction on the road, on the sidewalk, on your stairs. However, the new track bearing the name "Sea Salt" from John Vanderslice makes me feel as though I'm sliding with varying degrees of control. During the verses I've gotten the hang of the pattern, the method in which I need to move to stay upright, but when the chorus rolls in with staggering orchestral melodies I lose my footing and grasp at whatever is consistent. My stomach even takes the turns it would if it thought the rest of me was about to fall.
Thankfully, if this had been the situation when John was recording, he would've had the entire Magik*Magik Orchestra there to catch him if he fell. In fact, they hung out with him for three days while they recorded live his new album, White Wilderness. "Sea Salt" is our first taste of it, and Yours Truly made a mini-documentary on the January 25 release, which you can watch below. Consider beforehand streaming the track above and whisking it away for your own below. Then watch it. Then pre-order the album.
