Antony and the Johnsons

Lilting vibrato resonates over sweetly spun string melodies and piano-generated depth in the yet-to-be-released "Swanlights," the fourth album by Antony and the Johnsons. The music has a soaring yet mournful glimmer: a result of Antony Hegart's crescendos washing in and out of his voice. But before I give you too many ideas, hear the entire album and feel for yourself the dichotomy of relief and oppression lurking in forty-six minutes of song.

Listen to "Swanlights," due in hard copy and taken off of stream on October 12, at NPR.
