Elaborate stories weaved together through elaborate folk music has been the M.O. of The Decemberists through their past five albums. The Hazards of Love carried a similar motif throughout the entire fifty-eight minutes and showcased the beautiful voices of Becky Stark and Shara Worden. Their style impacted the songs they appeared on, and guesses can be made for the influence of Peter Buck of R.E.M. on their upcoming sixth release, The King is Dead. So far what we have is a track list and two videos for songs that will be on the album, which you can read/watch below.
Sounds a little less epic, a little less elaborate, but still maintains a lot of the beauty and resilience of The Decemberists music. And if you're still reading this, you need to stop and go watch the videos and listen! Keep an eye out too for the release of The King is Dead on January 11 on Capitol.
