Per a release posted on their website today, which you can see above, The White Stripes have announced that they, as a band, have broken up. Meg and Jack White are not sick, angry, dying or parting on creative differences. They just want to keep the image created for their band alive as it is now:
The White Stripes do not belong to Meg and Jack anymore. The White Stripes belong to you now and you can do with it whatever you want. The beauty of art and music is that it can last forever if people want it to.
So, in memoriam, let us listen to the single that put them on the map, and remember where we were and how we felt when The White Stripes entered our lives. "Fell In Love With a Girl" is above for stream, and below for download.
