Last week I let you in on the details of The Mountain Goats' March 2011 release All Eternals Deck, which is being overseen by a death metal consultant. Well judging by this recently released single – no, it's not from the new album – they have been channeling the eternal sadness from at least one of the circles of hell.
"Tyler Lambert's Grave" tells the story of unending poverty, pitiful determination and the slow crawl towards unfulfillable loneliness. Great for a night alone, right? Truthfully, it pulls from the true story of television actress Dana Plato's son, who committed suicide. The echo of Darnielle's voice over distant piano amplifies the themes of agonizing solitude apparent in the song. Hear the track above and snag for keeps below, just make sure you are ready to get a lump in your throat.
