Wanda Jackson - A Legend Returns to Portland

Come See Her Soul'd Out Music Performance on Saturday

“Legend” may be one of the most overused words in the music industry’s lexicon. It gets attached, undeservedly, to sixteen-year-old pop divas and autotuned has-beens, to hateful shock-rockers and talentless crooners who have never written a single note. When discussing Ms. Wanda Jackson, though, it’s the only term that will do.

If you think you don’t know who she is, think again. Jackson’s catchy tunes have been featured in movies from But I’m a Cheerleader to Bridesmaids, and covered by more musicians than there’s room to count. Her most recent album was produced by Jack White, and included rockabilly interpretations of such high-profile artists as Bob Dylan and Amy Winehouse, enhanced by that distinct Wanda Jackson growl.

With a career spanning more than five decades and more undeniably brilliant songs than most could dream of, the Queen of Rockabilly continues to cater to her devoted fans. This coming weekend, she’ll be bringing her guitar and her unmatched vocal talents to the Roseland Theater as part of the Soul’d Out Music Festival on Saturday, April 21st. Come check “see a music icon” off your list of things to do before you die. We’ll be there to capture the magic, and you should join us in the front row.
