Luisa Maita

Brazil has produced more than its fair share of musicians who have made the leap to an international audience, as fans of Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil, Seu Jorge and any number of others can tell you. So you can be sure that the winner of the Best New Artist at the Brazilian Music Awards is going to be something special. This year, her name is Luisa Maita, a young singer-songwriter who fuses venerable Brazilian samba with jazz and Feist-like cool on her debut album Lero-Lero.

This Friday, Maita brings her band to the Reggatabar in the Charles Hotel in Cambridge, MA. Bring your dancing shoes and and your worldbeat cool and come hear the artist NPR calls the “New Voice of Brazil.”
