I walked up the stairs for my first evening SXSW show to the yodeling and mad fiddling of Mr. Doug Kershaw. Conspicuously lacking were tight skinny pants, indie rock t-shirts and short shorts. Present?: Lone Star beer, cowboy hats, boots and folks over 25.
Kershaw, a long time name in the Cajun genre, played guitar and a small squeezebox along with his fiddle and was flushed out with guitar, bass and his son on drums. The "Ragin Cajun" drew in the devoted crowd with humorous stories and lyrics (including a tune about Cajun stripper) and a memorable number that featured a speed competition between Kershaw on the fiddle and his son on drums. Serious heel stomping fun!
