Imagine, if you can, James Blake crossed with Justin Timberlake. Impossible, you say? Meet Jamie Woon.
Woon, a singer-songwriter turned electro disciple of dubstep legend Burial, has enough R&B chops chops to fill buckets. The fact that he splices his voice with popping beats and blips and bloops only serves to showcase his velvety pipes and well-formed sensibilities. Playing a short but sweet set at the Windish showcase on Thursday night, Woon won over the crowd with subtly sensuous songs and a humble demeanor. He may be new on the scene, but Woon is turning heads and looking to break out when his debut drops in April. He closed his set with the brilliant "Lady Luck," and the song stayed stuck in my head for days.
