What else we were talking about that week

John Doe's weathered, craggy face - framed by long hair and covered in sweat - resembles an alternate universe's Iggy Pop. The comparison isn't unfounded - both Pop and Doe are considered forefathers of the American punk movement, Iggy with the Stooges and Doe with Los Angeles punk band X. Where Iggy's iconic image is shirtless, though, Doe stood before the crowd at Palm Door dressed in a suit, suggesting that perhaps his irreverent punk days are behind him. But though in recent years he has turned to the twangier side of things, Doe and Iggy aren't so different after all. Doe has said that he does his best writing when he feels the most worthless - a mood that seeps into his music. Playing acoustic guitar and singing with a throaty rasp, Doe is punk rock all grow'd up; he's reflective and introspective, but he still drops f-bombs and plays for the rush.
