What a glorious surprise. Following a commendable opening set from Gentleman Reg, the Love Language took to the main stage at the South Congress Music by the Slice party. Hailing from North Carolina and with a debut album now in stores (or, for your convenience, right here), the Love Language play hella-good rock and roll. They feature an ever–crowd pleasing setup of dueling female keyboardists, lending a pleasingly symmetrical frame to the rest of the band, five more people and an all-male crowd. Their music featured long vocal lines and an excellent dynamic range, pulling the crowd in close with hushed melodies that bust back out into raving, ravaging rock and roll.
Perhaps due to the cramped quarters on stage, the seven-piece band had an excellent energy, and played off of each other expertly. Even given the limited space, they managed to dance around, whether with guitars, while on drums, or when jumping about with a tambourine. They played fun, dirty rockabilly, the perfect accompaniment to the new day and early hour (yeah, it was probably after noon-o'clock by this point). The Love Language finished waking us up, and left us with an excellent taste in our, um, ears as we headed out for the long walk into town.
