Sasquatch! 2010 really was amazing in that it only featured one or two letdowns in my book. Pavement being the first, and Mayer Hawthorne most definitely the second. Hawthorne’s soul prowess really intrigued me prior to the show, but he seemed to not possess an ounce of it this day. Sure, his voice is smooth as hell, and his back-up instrumentals and vocals are straight out of Motown, but his songs on Memorial Day sounded more weak, ‘80s R&B than ‘50s doo-wop. Something just felt off the entire set, and Hawthorne’s attitude on the stage was pretty annoying. I was really disappointed, but at least his recorded stuff, in which I don’t have to interact with him personally, is pretty dy-no-mite.
