Real Estate

“We just drove here from Kansas,” explained bassist Alex Bleeker at the top of Real Estate’s afternoon set. “We literally got out of the car an hour ago.” They can be forgiven, then, for a bit of a muddy start to their run of tunes. Off the bat they had the dazed, muted look that you might see in the eyes of someone who has seen a lot of highway recently. By the end of the set, that had all turned around. As the stage manager motioned from the side of the stage that they needed to cut off mid-jam, lead singer Martin Courtney got a devious look in his eye. He turned away as if he hadn’t gotten the message and, much to the delight of the crowd, continued his guitar solo.
