What else we were talking about that week

As Santi White and her ‘band’ of drummers and backup dancers strode onto the stage, their brightly colored uniforms spoke of the vivid nature Santigold’s music projects. Particularly that of the radiant Master of My Make-Believe, her newest album, which can easily be considered payback for the impatient wait we’ve suffered through in her four-year absence.

This new release is a powerful comeback, with layers of Jamaican spirit and bouncy dance rhythm weaving throughout. Santigold seems to concoct an effortless sort of magnificence with her sounds, and she has deftly done so again with this album, as well as her Sasquatch! set. The group delivered a solid performance, and tracks such as “The Keepers,” “L.E.S. Artistes” and “Disparate Youth” tumbled smoothly together. As the sun began to peak out and shine over The Gorge, it became one of those moments in which you feel, “nothing this good is happening anywhere else in the world right now.”

Santigold’s smile competed with the sun in lighting up the crowd, and as she began singing “Creator,” she asked the exuberant fans to join her on the stage. They proceeded to gleefully prance all over the place, and it was clear the mood of weekend was being set as they did.
