What else we were talking about that week

Kicking off the light show that was Friday night at The Gorge, Girl Talk electrified the crowd with his enormous library of mash-ups, and eye-popping visuals. For a little over an hour he wreaked havoc on the stage, jumping and dancing wildly as he spun hits from the last four decades.

Girl Talk showed he hasn’t lost his touch as he matched the beats, rhythm and style of entirely different artists together. Ol’ Dirty Bastard rapping about how his lady better give him back his money, as The Strokes sang “Last Night”? Priceless. Vampire Weekend’s indie beats mashed up against 50 Cent’s promise to party, ‘cuz it’s your birthday? Dynamically awesome. There was also a very appropriate nod to the late Adam “MCA” Yauch, as Girl Talk produced a delicious combination of Beastie Boys vs. Iggy Pop.

The barrage of ‘songs we all know by heart’ made the show feel a bit like a high school dance, but Girl Talk’s manic energy kept it from teetering too far in that direction. And the gorgeous fireworks that exploded in the sky following the set helped solidify the awesome that had just gone down. In all, the show was an absolute crowd stimulator, as well as something of an homage to the distinctly different musicians yet to come that weekend.
