Looking back, I may have been a little harsh on The Cool Kids, in my review of their Auditorium Shores show on the 18th. Perhaps it was because I knew they had a chance to make up for it a night later, when they headlined the hip-hop portion of the Biz3 showcase at the Mohawk. Which they did.
Performing behind three young, talented, hungry rappers (Fashawn, Freddie Gibbs, Donnis), The Cool Kids completely owned the Mohawk stage and blew away my slightly sour memories of their previous show. Their setlist was nearly the same - "Gold and a Pager", new songs, "Bake Sale" songs - but their energy was at an entirely new level. Without the 6-foot barrier between stage and audience, Chuck and Mikey worked the crowd relentlessly, using every inch of stage to assure that everyone in attendance was either dancing or shouting along with the lyrics. And they were.
The Cool Kid's 25 minutes disappeared way too fast, and made me remember why I had been so excited to see them in the first place.
