Garnering one of the biggest and most loving receptions this year were local favorites The Head and The Heart. They’d stolen the show in 2011, proving themselves with those powerfully sweet melodies of the indie folk variety. It wasn’t long into this year’s set, however, that it seemed the group hadn’t changed much at all. So little that it felt like a copy of the previous year’s performance.
That’s not a terrible thing, especially considering the quality of their music, but even when they announced new songs, they sounded like re-hashed versions of tracks from their debut. Violinist/vocalist Charity Rose Thielen was at her best, however, and whenever she began singing, it was take-your-breath-away good. She even showed such emotion in the performance that she began crying as she said goodbye at set’s end. It wasn’t an overly exciting performance, but did offer for terrific sunset music, leaving the crowd happily swaying side-to-side as day slipped into night.
