Parts one and two are complete and now Wednesday brings part three! I have some more mp3s I've saved up for you to get into that holiday spirit, with some outlasting the Christmas cheer to be carried all the way to March when the temperature finally starts to rise . . . But now is not the time to daydream of spring! It's time for more presents!
Beach House
Persistent, repetitive and dreamy, "I Do Not Care For the Winter Sun" has the lazy disdain of a procrastinator. Perfect for when you catch that gleam of the sun off the smooth blanket of snow that blinds and stuns you into a blurry squint. Hear Beach House's winter-themed contribution above and snag it for keeps all the way at the bottom, by the comments section, where you should leave me a "Season's Greetings."
Atlas Sound
Made for a Christmas compilation made by his friend David, Atlas Sound created five different version of a song titled "Artificial Snow." How about that instead of five golden rings! You can download all five here and hear the Notown Version via soundcloud:
Odd Future
In case you're feeling a little humbug this year, I have something for you too. Tyler, The Creator, Earl Sweatshirt and Hodgy Beats of Odd Future busted out a slow and thick-with-sleigh-bells track titled "Fuck This Christmas." I don't recommend playing it for your mom as she opens her stocking. Download it here.
Megafaun
As part of the I'll Be Hometapes for Christmas compilation, Megafaun has provided their version of "I Saw Three Ships." Using vocal harmonies, harmonica solos and soothing 3/4 time on a banjo, this might be the best song to help you fall asleep as you lay excited for Christmas morning. You can hear and download the compilation on bandcamp or just the Megafaun track here.
Mike Skinner
Pairing up with The Music's Rob Harvey under the moniker Scrooge and Marley, Mike Skinner produced a festive song titled "I Don't Want It To Be Me." If you're worried about being lonely during the holidays, this is a song you can commiserate with. Hear it via soundcloud below and download it here.
This player (SoundCloud) didn’t survive.
Nathan Fake
Need help power shopping? Yeah, this song will get your heart rate up in preparation for the mall crowds and last-minute wrapping. Faster BPM always helps me work out at a faster pace, so the same must apply for Christmas shopping. Either way, Nathan Fake put a steady beat on his holiday track "Xmas Rush," which you can hear via soundcloud below and download here.
Dream Diary
Covering Tom Petty's "Christmas All Over" is Dream Diary, who maintains the upbeat festive joy of the original while softening the vocals. Download it here for some Christmas cheer! Okay, I won't do that again, I promise.
Slipknot
Coming across as a redneck, ignorant, pop-punk anthem, Slipknot speaks through the verses of this Christmas-hating track, "X-M@$." This is another one for all you Ebenezers, or at least those who love Slipknot. You can hear it via soundcloud below, and, if you have a sense of humor, you will actually enjoy it.
