Janelle Monae, Big Boi, and touches of Motown. She calls it "Tightrope"

I call it money.

Janelle Monae

When Janelle Monáe came on the scene, I heard people referring to her as the female Andre 3000, minus the rapping. Rhymes weren't her thing, big vocals and space-age beats were. But I always felt that there was something lacking in her recorded output. Live, it was another story. I saw her open up for Jamie Lidell and she gave him a run for his money and that guy can sing. But this new song "Tightrope", has break-away written all over it. Not Lady Gaga, mega-stardom hit (for the record, I don't like her, it was just pretty obvious why she was going to be popular), but definitely something that will make some heads turn. And why shouldn't they? She's a talented lady and in my opinion, has that X factor. Here's hoping she breaks soon, but honestly, when you have Big Boi co-executive producing your new album (It's called The ArchAndroid and it's out May 18th) and all up on your single, I think you're doing alright.
