Yuck

I've been on the prowl. I've been lurking through the tall grasses of RSS feeds and chain emails for news on a band that won me over with a video about dog grooming. Though it wasn't the strange juxtaposition of glands and a lithe, soapy body that made me watch that video, it was the sound that was becoming the foreground without any images. The sound of Yuck, a London-based band that has been labeled part of the "grunge revival."

ClashMusic interviewed Yuck bassist Max Bloom about this label, and, though they are prone to fuzzed-out guitars and crashing percussion, he states that there is nothing about their sound that is a revival:

"It’s weird that there’s a certain label of bands called ‘grunge revival’ when there’s been guitar bands consistently making amazing music. There hasn’t been a stop or start or anything. There’s just been more attention given to it," explained Max Bloom.
Continuing, the band insisted that they were after a style, rather than a particular era. "Me and Daniel found a certain type of guitar rock that was really appealing. It was really melodic and emotional," said Max Bloom. "When you hear a band that you completely fall in love with, it just kind of changes completely the way you’re thinking. It’s more about the way particular bands have used guitars rather than an actual era."

It's easy to peg a sound with an era, but what counts is that it's made here and now, and you can listen to it, here and now. Their b-side "Coconut Bible" is above for stream and below for download, and will not be included in their debut set for release on February 15.
