Brooding and vaguely tribal, the latest from Nika Danilova, or rather Zola Jesus, does her a great favor in generating hype for her latest album, Conatus. "Vessel" displays a range of powerful forces in Danilova's voice, which are only enhanced by mirroring vocal effects and subtle synths. If the music itself doesn't win you over immediately, you can look forward to a variety of orchestral elements in Conatus, such as the violin, viola, double bass and cello. The album drops on October 4 in the U.S., with the opportunity to see some of her new material live at the Pitchfork Music Festival on July 16.
