Presenting a very cool brand of music Sunday night were Beirut, who simultaneously provided uniquely different sounds than that of the majority of the bands at Sasquatch! 2012. Employing trumpet, accordion, tuba, ukulele and much, much more, Beirut crafted a delicious mix of gypsy, Balkan-influenced indie folk that was perfect for the end of the day.

Songs such as “Santa Fe” rolled out with softly sung vocals, only to be interrupted by bold trumpeting that came to accentuate the tune, rather than distract from it. Also proving highly effective was the combination of Mariachi guitar with an impressive accordion melody. It’s always tough to appreciate the accordion, but Beirut know exactly what to do with it, and they do it well.

Lead singer and band founder Zach Condon carried a fantastic voice that hinted at Roy Orbison during this set, and it intensified the quality music Beirut was already serving us. Definitely one of the best shows Sunday had to offer.
