The final day of a memorable Memorial Weekend at the 2011 Lightning in a Bottle festival began with a bang known as Pussymonster. To start it off, Zoe Jakes (Beats Antique), DJ Shawna and a handful of their greased up men stormed the stage and made sure everybody felt their presence. I think that the two of them may have started an outrageously hilarious project that will be accompanying the Beats Antique tour for years to come. It totally cracked me up to see the guys in gold shorts, attached to leashes and spraying everyone in sight with real douchebags (seriously). I think eveybody got a laugh from it.
Once they left, Goldrush kept the rowdy crowd satisfied as the Lightning Stage began a party that would eventually see Bonobo and Thievery Corporation take the stage for the glory that is the last two spots of a wild weekend. The Bamboo Stage didn't skip a beat either as El Papachango, LYNX, Sofiah, and Baths kept people in a perpetual trance with all of their tunes.
And then ESKMO took the stage, and played an unbelievably beautiful set, filled up with a myriad of effects he used to enhance his own instruments of choice i.e. a shovel, a water bottle, and a cowbell. Honestly, I was in awe of him. I'm still thinking about it now, as the feeling of nostalgia from this entire weekend of fun runs through my bones. And what amazes me, is that The Do Lab and the thousands of people who attended LIB, jointly created this euphoric setting that many festivals aim to achieve, where for 3 days a growing community of talented artists, inspirational speakers and plenty of eye candy came together to light up the night and my life.
